Joan Hornig with Kyle Agustines
at Well Street Art Company.

Pieces of a place.

One piece speaks
to another.
“I live and work in Fairbanks, Alaska, surrounded by boreal forests, braided rivers, mountain ranges, wildlife and, in the summers, my flower garden.”
Joan builds layered compositions in encaustic, collage, and pastel on wood. Alaska’s landscape meets the patterns of textiles, embroidery, and quilts.
Read Joan’s statementA painting
becomes a quilt.
Transparent color, stenciled pattern, and scraped-back surfaces become small painted panels — then a larger whole.
Pattern and Decoration, Bonnard, Matisse, and the beauty of the ornamental all find a place here.
Out in the world.
Always
making.
